Sightseeing

If you’re looking to absorb the history of Scotland then there are many historical sites reachable by car.

Stirling is a must for any tour of Scotland, with the Wallace Monument, Stirling Castle and Bannockburn, the scene of one of Scotland’s most famous and bloody battles where Robert the Bruce fought King Edward II of England.

Elsewhere the Scone Palace in Perth is an elegant historic house, and the rightful home of the Stone of Destiny (upon which Scottish monarchs were crowned).

More detailed information on the area’s visitor attractions is available from reception.

For a more sensory experience Whisky distilling has a prominent place in Scotland’s history. Perthshire has a few working distilleries, each of which provides visitor access and tours where you’ll learn about the history and distilling process, with many tours including a tasting session at the end. Of note, the Glenturret Distillery in Crieff is home to The Famous Grouse Experience an award-winning visitor centre, and Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford lies on the site of Scotland’s oldest brewery, dating back to the twelfth century.

Activities

There is plenty to keep you occupied during your stay with us at the Tormaukin Hotel. A range of sporting activities, from the peace and quiet of the fairway to the exhilaration of the track.

If you’re looking for action then Perth is the perfect place to begin. Perth Racecourse offers top quality horse racing, attracting the best thoroughbred horses, top jockeys and trainers from all over the UK. Race fixtures fall between April and September, with the highlight being the Perth Festival in April. If you prefer to be the one riding the horse instead of just watching, the Edinburgh University’s Exmoor Pony Trekking arrange treks through Glendevon in the summer months just a few hundred yards from the hotel.

Even more high octane, Knockhill racing circuit is less than 20 minutes away with events held all year round. Be pushed to the edge of your seat as some of the best in motor sport take to the track, or put pedal to the metal yourself with your very own track day. Knockhill caters to both bikes and cars with vehicles available to hire, or you can use your own.

The Tormaukin was named a Good Shoot Hotel, 2015 by the Guns on Pegs community, and we’re happy to put together a package for an individual or a group. Whilst Perthshire offers many opportunities for shooting, stalking and hunting all year round, please do enquire in advance to avoid disappointment. We can also organise clay pigeon shooting for you at nearby Gleneagles, or how about a falconry experience at the  Phoenix Falconry.

Perthshire is one of Scotland’s most famous areas for salmon and trout fishing. There are three beautiful trout lochs all within a ten minutes drive of the hotel. Glensherup Fishery offers brown and rainbow trout fishing on one of the glens many reservoirs. Likewise Frandy Fishery has brown, rainbow and blue trout, and easily within walking distance is Castlehill Fishery which offers the opportunity to fish for many different species including the most popular, rainbow trout. We can suggest suitable waters, arrange permits and assure you of the perfect place to relax at the end of the day!

A visit to Scotland wouldn’t be complete without a round of golf and at Tormaukin Hotel we are extremely lucky to be situated in the centre of some of the most scenic, famous and challenging golf courses anywhere in Britain. Golf courses in the area include the famous Gleneagles Courses (only 10 minutes away) and the St Andrews Links courses. Carnoustie is within an hour of Tormaukin Hotel and with over 40 excellent golf courses in Perthshire offering public access, there is a style and standard of course to suit everyone.
